  • ½ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture alternating with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. While cooling, prepare the frosting by mixing cocoa powder, powdered sugar, butter, heavy cream, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Once cooled, frost between layers and cover the top generously.
