Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Russet potatoes (about 2 lbs)
  • 1 lb flank or skirt steak
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup sliced jalapeños
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • ¼ cup lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fries: Wash, peel, and cut russet potatoes into thick strips. Rinse in cold water to remove excess starch.
  2. Fry the potatoes: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry potato strips in batches until golden brown (5-7 minutes). Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
  3. Marinate the steak: In a bowl, mix lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add steak and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Sear the steak: Heat a skillet over high heat. Sear steak for about 3-4 minutes per side until desired doneness. Let rest before slicing thinly against the grain.
  5. Assemble: Layer crispy fries with sliced carne asada, sprinkle with shredded cheese, and broil until bubbly.
  6. Top: Add guacamole, jalapeños, sour cream, and cilantro before serving hot.
