  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing for soft cookies.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets about two inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft. Allow cooling on sheets for five minutes before transferring to wire racks.
