Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup milk (warm)
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar in a bowl; let it froth for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, pumpkin puree, and egg; mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled (about an hour).
  5. Roll out the dough to a rectangle about ¼ inch thick; spread softened butter over it and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Roll tightly from one long side to form a log; cut into 12 equal pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While cooling slightly, beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth; drizzle over warm rolls.
