  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • Cream cheese frosting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a larger bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Stir in red food coloring until your desired shade is achieved.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  7. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets two inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft; cool on sheets briefly before transferring to wire racks.
  9. Optionally, pipe or spread cream cheese frosting once cooled.
