  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, oregano, and basil. Mix gently until combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs using damp hands. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear meatballs until browned on all sides (about 5 minutes). Remove from skillet.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic for 30 seconds. Add canned tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper; stir well.
  5. Return meatballs to the sauce and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  6. Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente; drain while reserving some pasta water.
  7. Toss spaghetti with sauce or serve separately topped with meatballs.
