Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • 28 oz canned San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté until softened (5-7 minutes).
  2. Stir in minced garlic and ground beef. Cook until the meat is browned (8-10 minutes), breaking it into smaller pieces.
  3. Pour in red wine and scrape up any browned bits from the pan. Add crushed tomatoes along with oregano and basil; stir well.
  4. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil, then lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 30-45 minutes.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Serve over your favorite pasta with grated Parmesan.
